Leadership Opportunities: Center for Civic Engagement and Learning

The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) offers a variety of curricular and co-curricular programs. These programs include:

Case Serves!

Case SERVES (Students Exploring Regular Volunteer Engagement through Service) is designed to offer students flexible, weekly opportunities to get involved in community service. Students can participate as their schedules permit, whether it's once a semester or once a week. Case SERVES student coordinators lead the volunteer groups each week and even provide transportation to many sites in the center van.

Tutoring and Mentoring

ExploratoryEngagedFocusedTransitional

Through the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning, undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students tutor and mentor elementary through high school pupils in classrooms and after-school programs in Cleveland and East Cleveland.

Work-Study Corps

The Civic Engagement Work-Study Corps (CEWSC) provides Case Western Reserve University students with meaningful placements to utilize their Work-Study awards while broadening their understanding of the Cleveland community. Participating students work at local non-profit organizations and meet as a group to share their experiences and learn about the community.

Saturday of Service

ExploratoryEngagedFocusedTransitional

The purpose of Service Days is to give students the opportunity to contribute to the local community at least one day a semester. Saturdays of Service include various service opportunities throughout the city.

Alternative Breaks

ExploratoryEngagedFocusedTransitional

The Center for Civic Engagement & Learning hosts and supports community service trips that enable students to get involved in service beyond Cleveland. Rather than engage in typical break activities, students on Alternative Breaks engage in projects with non-profit organizations and community members in different cities and countries. It is a great way to make a difference, learn about a new place, and meet new people!

Student Organizations

The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning works with several organizations dedicated to providing service to benefit humanity.
