Phase 1: Exploratory Leadership

During the first phase of the Journey, the emerging leader at Case is learning the skills necessary to balance academic life with co-curricular demands. This leader is determining his or her interest in campus involvement and is selective in his or her participation. This leader is committed to making the transition from high school leader to university leader, building a strong leadership foundation and strengthening his or her network with other student leaders.

Learning Outcomes

During the Exploratory leadership phase students will:

• Determine interest in campus involvement
• Make connections across campus
• Transition from high school leader to university leader
• Create a sense of self-awareness

Sample Exploratory Leadership Opportunities

• Participate in the Emerging Leaders Program
• Join a student organization
• Participate in Mistletoe Residential College programs
• Participate in community service
• Develop classroom leadership skills through SAGES
• Participate in the Fall and Winter Leadership Conferences
• Participate in a Greek organization
• Join the Student Leadership Journey Council during the spring semester
• Attend Leadership Journey Series workshops
• Nominate someone for a Dr. Dorothy Pijan Student Leadership Award
