Role of the Advisor
Each sports club is required to select an advisor who is a full-time member of Case Western
Reserve University Faculty or Staff and has an interest in the club and its activity. Part-time
faculty and staff, and teaching assistants are ineligible to serve as advisors. The advisor must
be approved by the Physical Education and Athletic Department and must complete an
advisor's consent form.
The Faculty/Staff advisor is considered a necessary link between the club and the
University. Roles and responsibilities of the advisors are listed below:
- The advisor is not expected to assume leadership of an organization, but is
encouraged to work closely with the officers offering input into the organization's
decision making process.
- The advisor shall lend his/her experience, judgment and knowledge, to assist the club.
- The advisor helps maintain continuity in club programming and provides knowledge of
University policies and procedures.
- The advisor should attend club meetings and be available to counsel club leaders and
members.
- An individual may not serve as an advisor to more than two sports clubs during an
academic year.
- The advisor shall verify and approve all scheduled events and contests for his/her club,
including travel to events off campus. Sport club under disciplinary sanctions are
required to have their Advisor present at permitted scheduled events.
- If the advisor fails to fulfill these responsibilities, he/she may be disqualified from
serving as the club's advisor.
