Player Eligibility

The intramural sports staff cannot assume responsibility for the eligibility of players, but will assist the organization, managers, and individuals with problems of eligibility and interpretation of rules.

Student Eligibility

All undergraduate and graduate students registered at Case shall be eligible to participate in intramural sports and activities. Students enrolled in the co-op program are eligible to participate in intramural sports and activities.

Varsity Letter Winners

Any student (male or female), who received a varsity letter from Case or any other four-year college, is ineligible to participate in that sport or associated sport for a period of one (1) year after receiving the award. Associated sports may include football, flag football, baseball, or softball.

Squad Members/Red Shirts

A student whose name is listed on an athletic department eligible roster as a member of a team (varsity, reserve, or freshman) in intercollegiate athletics at Case is not eligible for intramural competition in that sport or associated sport. An individual who is not listed on an intercollegiate roster but who regularly trains with the team is considered a team member and is ineligible for the sport or associated sport. Any student who transfers to Case is eligible to participate in his/her sport or associated sport as long as that student did not earn a varsity letter the previous season and did not participate in an intercollegiate contest prior to enrollment.

A student who becomes a member of an intercollegiate squad after beginning participation in an intramural league will be permitted to continue participation in that activity for the remainder of that sport season. Only one-half of any playing lineup may be made up of intercollegiate athletes. For example, three in volleyball or two on a relay team.

Club Sports Members

Club Sports squad members may not participate in that sport or associated sport as a team. Members may compete in their sport or associated sports as long as only one-half of any playing lineup is made up of club sport members. For example, three in volleyball or four in rugby (football).

Professional Athletes

A student who is a professional in a sport may not participate in that sport or associated sport, but may participate in all other intramural sports and activities. A person who is compensated for instruction of sport skills, other than the Case Physical Education faculty, is considered a professional and is not eligible for intramurals in that sport.
