J. Bruce Jackson, MD, Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring
The positive impact Case Western Reserve University professors have on the lives of their students is recognized annually with the J. Bruce Jackson, MD Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring. It was established by J. Bruce Jackson, Adelbert '52, in honor of Dean Carl F. Wittke, who served as an advisor, mentor, and friend to Dr. Jackson when he was an undergraduate student at Western Reserve University.
The Jackson Award celebrates those who have guided a student in their academic and career paths; fostered the student's long-term personal development; challenged the student to reflect, explore and grow as an individual; and supported and/or facilitated the student's goals and life choices.
Congratulations to the 2012 Jackson Award Winners
The 2012 Jackson Award winners winners are Matthew Englander, Physical Education and Athletics, and Eugene Matthews, Facilities Services. One of Matt Englander's nominations included the comments, "He may think it's just coaching baseball, but it's not. It’s a lot more than that; he's a role model, and I think every one of my former team mates would agree. I know that I am much better off having had the privilege of playing for Coach E." A student wrote of his relationship with Gene Matthews, "Gene Matthews is one of a kind and I know that at any point in my life I can contact him and he would love to help me out."
