Four-Phase Plan
To assist you with your progression through college, the Career Center has developed a Four-Phase Plan. The purpose of the Four-Phase Plan is to provide you with guidance as you progress through your experience at Case.
Discover
- Meet with a career counselor to begin exploring or confirming choice of major. Take a career assessment, if recommended by your career counselor.
- Register and complete your Case CareerLink profile.
- Develop a resume to use on/off campus and in Case CareerLink.
- Participate in Career Center programs and workshops.
- Attend the Choices Fair to meet with faculty and representatives from academic programs.
- Use the Career Center to help you make choices about school-year positions on/off campus and identify summer opportunities.
- Take advantage of other social/academic organizations through Student Organizations and services on campus.
Explore
DecideĀ and Commit
- Send for career materials from professional associations and consider joining one as a student member.
- Devote a significant amount of time to seeking a summer job/internship related to your field.
- Participate in campus organizations and/or volunteer projects. Assume leadership positions.
- Develop relationships with advisors and faculty members. Identify individuals who will serve as references for graduate school or employment.
- Explore your options and desire to attend graduate or professional school.
- If you are interested in medical or law school, contact the pre-law or pre-med advisor about admission processes and testing. Contact Undergraduate Studies at 216.368.2928.
Act
Job Search
- Visit Career Center early for job search assistance.
- Use appointments with career counselors, resources in the Career Center, and workshops for help with resumes, correspondence, interviewing and job search strategies.
- Network with employers, alumni, family, friends and others.
- Contact employers using on-campus interviewing, career fairs, Case CareerLink listings, accenture Career Resource Center directories and periodicals.
Graduate School
- Complete applications and take the appropriate entrance exams.
- Request faculty members and employers to serve as references. Start a credential file for graduate school application materials at the Career Center.
- Use appointments with career counselors, resources in the Career Center, and workshops for help with resumes, correspondence, admissions essays, and interview strategies.
