The Case Career Center offers a variety of career development workshops to help you improve your job-seeking skills and job development strategies. Learn how you can become more competitive in the marketplace through a wide variety of helpful resources.

Resume Emergency Room

Bring your draft resumes, covers letters, thank you letters, and other professional correspondence to Resume Emergency Room. A Career Center staff member will review your work and offer recommendations and techniques for writing effective, results-oriented documents. Emphasis is placed on improving your communication to reflect your achievements as they relate to your career goals. Please refer to sample resumes/CVs and letters in the Career Search Guide to help you draft your documents.

Interviewing: The Basics

Nervous about what will happen during your job interview? Want to know how to make a great first impression with employers? Attend this workshop to learn how to get the job offer and impress even the toughest of interviewers! The following will be addressed: interview formats, researching companies, answering interviewing questions, interview ethics and etiquette, and more!

The Case Style Interview

How many gas stations are in the United States? Used often by consulting firms, this interview technique challenges your problem solving and analytical skills like no other. Workshop will be led by Alec P. Morrison, Vice President of A.T. Kearney Inc., a management consulting firm.

Job Search Strategies

Where are the jobs? How do I find them? When should I start looking? What can I do now? This workshop emphasizes a comprehensive approach to job searching, the importance of being focused, where to find jobs, the hidden job market, networking, and what the Career Center can do for you.

Behavior-Based Interviewing

Are you able to concisely and persuasively talk about how you would handle a situation related to your prospective job duties? Can you recall details of past behavior and experiences and effectively present these stories to an interviewer? This workshop will cover ways to identify behavior-based and situational interview questions, why interviewers prefer these types of questions, steps for preparing for these questions, and how to successfully deliver your answers.

Networking and Informational Interviewing

In this workshop, learn all about the process of and strategy for establishing and maintaining career contacts. Whether you are in the job search, exploring career options, or researching graduate school opportunities, this workshop will help you understand and apply methods of building relationships with others to meet your goals. It's more fun than you think!

Making the Most of Your First Career Fair

Not sure what to expect at the Career Fair? This workshop will cover: how to plan a strategy for the most effective and efficient use of time at a fair, the introduction - making the first impression a good one, and follow-up after the fair. Bring your calendars and sign-up to volunteer at the Career Fair. Volunteering is a great way to meet employers and see how a career fair operates.

Professional Communications

Get an overview of professional communication success strategies, protocol, and formats. Learn important behaviors that will create a favorable impression and build confidence.

Choosing Your Major

Undecided or confused about majors and careers? Not sure what to do or where to get help? Trying to sort out conflicting and confusing information about what you can do with a major? Attend this workshop and learn how to find a major that matches your interests, abilities, skills and values. This workshop covers all of these questions. Walk away with a list of resources to help you develop your own personal action plan!

Graduate School Application Process

Do you have questions concerning admission to graduate school and how to maximize your learning outcomes once you get there? At this workshop, you will learn how to identity and research the schools that are the best fit for you, explore alternative educational options, become familiar with the application process, learn more about personal goal statements, and find out about scholarship and funding resources. We'll also discuss resources for preparing and taking admissions tests, establishing a credentials file, and ways to practice the admissions interview. If you are considering attending graduate school now or in the future, this is a must-attend offering.

How to Research and Find Practicum and Internship Opportunities

This workshop introduces students to the different services and programs the Career Center offers to help students compliment learning with practicum and internships in government, business, and non-profit organizations. This session covers issues such as how to eliminate a practicum and/or internship, where to find one, and how to get the most of your experience. It also provides information on factors to consider when deciding on and applying for the right position for you. Having practical experience can help you decide if a career is right for you; enhancing your academic education and helping you make connections with others in your chosen profession. The opportunities are unlimited.
