Civic Engagement Work-Study Corps

Overview of the Program

The Civic Engagement Work-Study Corps (CEWSC) provides Case Western Reserve University students with meaningful placements to utilize their Work-Study awards while broadening their understanding of the Cleveland community. Participating students work at local non-profit organizations and meet as a group to share their experiences and learn about the community.

As a collaborative program between the Office of Student Employment and the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning, CEWSC focuses on the following goals.

  • Building capacity of local non-profit organizations.
  • Providing civic engagement opportunities from which students can build a life-long commitment to service.
  • Promoting an understanding of the Cleveland community, including its current challenges and assets.

At the start of the program, students participate in a paid orientation before serving at non-profit organizations. Students typically work 8-10 hours per week at their partner organization. Throughout the semester, students also participate in regular paid team meetings to develop an understanding of civic engagement and local issues.
