Transportation

The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) has two vans. The vans were purchased to be used primarily for group community service/service learning projects, and priority for usage is given to CCEL service projects, service learning courses, and student groups engaged in community service. When the vans are not in use for service projects, they may be rented for other group activities by Case Western Reserve academic departments, University offices, and recognized student organizations. Special rates apply for non-service usage.

CCEL vans may be driven only by Case Western Reserve University students, staff, or faculty, all of whom must have completed the certification process. The large van, due to liability regulations, may only transport 9 passengers (including the driver). The mini-van can transport 7 passengers (including the driver). CCEL vans are not permitted to transport non-Case participants (e.g., service site clients or program youth). For any trips that leave the state of Ohio, student groups must be accompanied by a faculty or staff member.

Case Western Reserve University students, staff, and faculty who would like to use a van must first complete the process to be certified by CCEL. CCEL-certified drivers may then request use of the CCEL vans for transporting students. Van usage fees cover gas and maintenance fees and will be billed to the organization or department.

If you have questions about van usage or regulations, please contact Benita Moore.
