Beginning in 2005, University of Dayton
(UD) became intentional in creating first-year
learning/living communities (LLCs). UD is a 97
percent undergrad residential campus, with over
6,000 undergrads and a first- and second-year
housing requirement. This program will describe
UD’s philosophy of LLCs, the logistics and
collaboration between faculty, deans, enrollment
management, registrar, bursar, orientation, and
others. We’ll share how LLCs have changed our
assignment processes, how LLCs are marketed to
prospective students, how LLCs change priority
housing, and how first-year LLCs have changed
UD’s upperclass housing. We’ll also share
several student perspectives on LLCs.
