    Proficiency Exams?

I read through the FYI guide and the Welcome Days schedule that there are several proficiency exams that are given during the Welcome Days. Do you need to sign up for them, and if so, where? And if we score well on the exams, are we exempt from taking that course, regardless of what we received on our AP tests and such?

You don't have to sign up for them at all, you just show up! When you receive your Welcome Days schedule, you will see the Proficiency Exams scattered throughout and may take as many as you wish. The exams are the equivalent of a final exam in that course. If you do well enough, you recieve credit for the introductory course and can move on to the next level if you wish. AP scores do not matter at that point!

I see on the schedule that the chemistry and physics prificiency tests are in the same time from 9-12:00, is that means if you take one you cannot take the other?

No, it just means that you'll have to set up an appointment with the department to take whichever test you wont be taking that day. He or she should be able to set up another time for you to take the exam. Thanks!

I thought I read somewhere that you have to sign up at least a day ahead of time.

Also, if these placement exams conflict with other prescheduled Welcome Days activities, do they take priority?

    Thanks.

You don't need to sign up for any of the placement exams. You can just show up the day of. And the exams do not conflict with any required events, so if you need to take one, you shouldn't be too worried about missing other events.
