Small Wins

By Valbona Bushi, Accounting, Class of 2008

Photo of Valbona BushiAfter four years at Case, I have finally gotten a better handle on using small wins for homework. I had always heard about this concept being used in leadership training, but I had never thought about using it with my homework.

One of the best study tips is to start early on your work. If you have a paper, then take 30 minutes to start writing anything, whether it is the first paragraph or just a rough outline. Do this for all your homework. If any questions come up, immediately email the professor or ask another student.

Plan for these short sessions, and your small win comes with having done just one paragraph, one problem, or one short reading assignment. Put a lot of these together, and you will have fewer stressful nights because you’ve produced a steady stream of work. Practice small wins in and out of academics, and you will be successful.
