Do What You Love and Love What You Do

Think back to a time when you absolutely loved a class. Now think about one that you absolutely hated. In which class did you have the better grade? I have found that success is almost always correlated with interest; or in other words, if you enjoy studying a subject, then you are more likely to excel. College is a time of discovery and change where it is okay to change majors, explore new subjects, and make mistakes. Feel free to be an engineer with a dancing minor, a pre-med English major, or a biology and biochemistry major, whatever fulfills your interests while still allowing you to pursue your ultimate educational and career goals.

But what about those core classes! Find a way to relate this class material to your everyday life or to your future. This approach will not only make the class more interesting but raise your grade.

Here’s my advice for you: instead of looking for the major that looks the best on a resume, look for the major that you enjoy the most while keeping your end goal in mind, take classes that you like, and relate uninteresting topics to your life to make them more exciting. Interest is the recipe for success!
