Maintaining Your Grades and a Healthy Social Life
By Sravanthi Paritala, Biochemistry and Psychology, Class of 2008
If there's one thing that I've learned in my time at CWRU, it's that it is too easy to get lost in trying to be the best. We're in a competitive environment, and everyone's worried about what is going to come next. It is easy to bury your nose in a book and forget to enjoy your time in college.
The best study tip that I can give is to find a balance. Finding a balance between school work and a social life is one of the hardest things to do in college. Once you achieve that balance, you will really enjoy your college experience.
Focus on doing your best, not being the best. Forget about the grade you think you're going to get. Focus on learning the material and appreciate the opportunity you have to study in a great school with other wonderful students. The classes that I have loved the most are the ones in which I gained something because I wanted to learn what the professor had to teach, and these classes are not necessarily the ones in which I got an A.
Don't forget to have a little fun. Watch a movie with friends, or just stay up one night chatting. You'll stay sane, and you won't get burnt out.
It may take some time before you are able to find a balance. Don't let that discourage you. Trial and error is a normal part of life. Just remember that every time something doesn't work out well, you've learned something, and you'll be wiser in the future.
