Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the differences between UNIV 400 A, B, and C?

Here is a brief description of each seminar:

A: UNIV 400A - Professional Development for Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs). UNIV 400A features an orientation and a series of seminars that are designed to assist a new TA in developing communication and teaching skills.

UNIV 400B - Professional Development for International Graduate Teaching Assistants (ITAs). In addition to satisfying the requirements of UNIV 400A, ITAs are required to attend a special half-day ITA orientation and participate in an evaluation of spoken English, known as the SPEAK evaluation.

UNIV 400C - ITA Communication Skill Development. This is a small group, interactive course that concentrates on American culture, pronunciation, idiomatic usage, and English grammar. It is required of all new ITAs who do not meet the minimum requirements on the SPEAK evaluation.

Q: What do I do if I receive an "Incomplete" for UNIV 400 A/B on my end-of-semester grades transcript?

A: A student has two semesters to complete the UNIV 400 A/B requirements once the student registers for the course. If, after the first semester the student has not completed all of the course requirements, they will receive an "Incomplete" on their end-of-semester grades transcript from the University Registrar. The student SHOULD NOT re-register for the course. When the student completes all of the course requirements the "Incomplete" will be changed to a "Pass" at the end of that semester.

Q: Who should I contact if I have any questions regarding my grades?

A: Please e-mail Judith Olson-Fallon.
