Inaugural 5K Race and Wellness Expo
The Homecoming and Alumni Weekend schedule of events will be enhanced with the addition of a 5K Race and Wellness Expo. The events are a great way to to connect students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community as we celebrate our rich institutional history.
The 5K Race and Wellness Expo will take place around the northside of campus in honor of Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, who embodied the spirit of community and Spartan pride. Tubbs-Jones, pictured left, served as the Homecoming parade grand marshal in 2001 and was very active in the Homecoming weekend celebration. She died in August, 2008.
The 5K race and expo will happen simultaneously on the northside of campus. Those who are interested in participating may:
- sign up as a race participant
- become an expo vendor or sponsor
- donate a prize for our raffle
Race Details
Date: Saturday, October 24, 2009
Parking: Lot S-46 is closest to the course
Registration: Opens at 7:30 a.m. in the Wade Multipurpose Room
Start Time: Race begins at 8:30 a.m.
Awards Presentation: Begins at 9:45 a.m. in front of Starbucks on E. 115
Shirts: The first 100 people to register will receive a 5K race T-shirt
The race route consists of 2 double loops around the northside of campus!
The race will be held, rain or shine. No refunds will be given.
Entry and Cost
Complete our online form if you want to participate in the race. You also can pick up a form from Student Activities and Leadership, Greek Life, the Alumni House, or Student Affairs.
Electronic Pre-registration: Due by October 16, 2009. The cost is $15.
Registration (day of the event): The cost is $20.
Race Proceeds
All proceeds from the Homecoming and Alumni Weekend 5K race directly benefit a current student at CWRU. A grant will be awarded to an undergraduate student at the annual Undergraduate Honors Assembly held each year in April.
Named after respected double-alumna Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, this award is given in honor of a true Spartan. It benefits an undergraduate, underrepresented CWRU student for significant contributions to campus life, scholarship, and community service — three characteristics best demonstrated by Ms. Tubbs-Jones.

The overall top male and female will receive a trophy. Ribbons will be given to the overall top three in the following divisions:
- 19-Under
- 20-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- Over 70
