Position Descriptions

It is our pleasure to announce the 2010 Relay For Life Executive Committee. The members have all demonstrated strong passion and committment to help in fighting for the cure and will continue their work until the start of the event on Friday, April 16, 2010. The following is a list of current members and their responsibilities:

Entertainment Co-Chairs: Divya Aggarwal, Bronwen Watkins-Pitchford
  • Plan games, activities, and entertainment throughout the evening
  • Work with teams to co-sponsor entertainment and prizes
  • Create a schedule of ceremonies, events, entertainment, and activities
  • Collaborate with the advisor to obtain staging and sound equipment
  • Recruit a DJ for the event
  • Recruit campus and community groups and bands to perform

Logistics Co-Chairs: Myles Nickolich, Minh-Tri Nguyen
  • Work jointly with volunteer coordinator
  • Attend team captain meetings
  • Facilitate logistics meetings with several campus offices, including Facilities, Plant Services, Housing, Residence Life, & Greek Life, Campus Services, Athletics, Student Activities & Leadership, among others
  • Obtain necessary contracts & permits
  • Prepare site map
  • Arrange for 18-hour first aid and security
  • Arrange for traffic control/parking
  • Obtain communication devices
  • Arrange 18-hour staffing for logistics

Food/Hospitality Chair: Katie Coakley
  • Obtain donations for midnight pizza party, pancake breakfast, sustenance stations
  • Coordinate water stations throughout the event
  • Arrange for logistics of food deliveries
  • Obtain donations for survivor dinner
  • Arrange for staffing of food area as needed
  • Work with local vendors to provide food stations
  • Coordinate food for any relay-sponsored event (including kickoff, retreat, etc.)

Luminaria Chair: Lauren Kwasniewski
  • Attend team captain meetings
  • Develop a plan to increase luminaria income
  • Develop a data entry plan
  • Plan the placement of luminaria
  • Plan the luminaria ceremony
  • Obtain luminaria supplies
  • Staff luminaria area until ceremony ends
  • Pick up luminaria after event ends

Registration/Accounting Chair: Rachel Harkey
  • Attend team captain meetings to register teams
  • Attend an ACS accounting training session
  • Organize logistics for the registration tent (includes team check-in, luminaria sales, volunteer check-in, money collection, survivor check-in, T-shirt pick up, etc.)
  • Ensure funds are properly allocated to team totals
  • Audit money collection for accuracy

Advocacy Co-Chairs: Amanda Martin, Alexandra Johnston
  • Develop activities for efforts to promote advocacy initiatives before, during, and after the event
  • Serve as a liaison between the American Cancer Society and congressional anti-cancer legislation
  • Coordinate volunteers for advocacy at Relay
  • Attend all Relay For Life events
  • Plan and implement integration of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network's legislative priorities into Relay For Life Events, activities and meetings

Marketing/Public Relations Co-Chairs: Emily Mikhail, Peter Rozman
  • Coordinate monthly newsletter design and publication
  • Identify and utilize community publications
  • Prepare PR plan
  • Arrange photo and video coverage
  • Coordinate program design and distribution
  • Design and obtain event "Thank You" signage
  • Arrange community/campus publications like the Case Daily, The Observer, and other forms of media

Sponsorship Co-Chairs: Timothy Beutler, Jennifer Wong
  • Attend Team Captain meetings
  • Develop and distribute ACS-approved sponsorship packet
  • Meet with local vendors/businesses to obtain sponsorship
  • Obtain sponsorship logos
  • Work with marketing/public relations chair to ensure all qualifying sponsor logos are included in publications (newsletters, program, etc.)
  • Select and order recognition items for sponsors
  • Plan and implement event day sponsor recognition

Survivorship Chair: Eugene "Alex" Shippey
  • Recruit survivors
  • Plan survivor opening ceremony and survivor activities
  • Organize staff development event at Hope Lodge
  • Order supplies/recognition items
  • Obtain written confirmation and waivers from participants
  • Collect appropriate information from all survivors
  • Plan and staff survivor sign-in
  • Create agenda for survivor dinner

Team Retention Chair: Molly Clifford
  • Prepare Team Captain packets
  • Maintain communication with team captains
  • Schedule and conduct team captain meetings
  • Maintain a listing of teams
  • Select, order, and deliver incentive prizes
  • Recognize and thank your team of volunteers and team captains
  • Organize on-site fundraisers with teams
  • Work with team recruitment chair on team development details

Team Recruitment Chair: Roshni Rao
  • Develop and implement a team recruitment plan
  • Schedule presentations for all potential teams
  • Oversee team development representatives (staff/faculty, community, graduate/professional, greek, student organizations, etc.)
  • Recruit Teams, Recruit Teams, Recruit Teams

Online Chair: John Witkowski
  • Attend relay online training
  • Hold a relay online training for team captains
  • Manage the relay online process
  • Maintain communication with team retention and team recruitment chairs to report team online fundraising progress
  • Work with marketing/public relations chair

* In addition to the specific responsibilities of each committee, all executive chairs will:

  • Recruit a sub-committee and meet with members regularly
  • Attend executive committee meetings
  • Meet with the steering committee to create goals and an action plan for each committee
