SMARRT Program
To further promote a stronger sense of community and personal growth in our members, the Interfraternity Congress, Panhellenic Council and the Office of Greek Life has expanded the FIPG Risk Management Program. The "Students Meeting about Risk and Responsibility Training," or SMARRT Program, was built on the FIPG program to help educate members on risks facing college students today. In addition to educating members on the rules associated with being a member of a Greek organization, the SMARRT Program will also educate members on alcohol and drug use, and sexual assault prevention.
Educating Members
The cornerstone of the program is peer-to-peer education. Student volunteers are trained to go into chapters and help educate.
Leadership training has two phases. The first phase includes training by University Counseling Services (UCS) on basic counseling techniques to help students present these programs to chapters.

The second phase includes training on the specific subject matter they will be presenting.
There will be four sets of leaders presenting in three areas: policies and procedures, alcohol and drug education, and sexual assault prevention. Below is a brief outline and description of each area of the SMARRT Program.
Policy and Procedures
This program will cover the same basic material as the current FIPG program. All new members will still be required to attend one of these sessions within their first two semesters of joining a chapter. The biggest change for this group will be the additional training by UCS.
Alcohol and Drug Education
This part of the program is designed to help members make better educated decisions about alcohol use. It will not be an "alcohol is bad" program. It simply outlines the issues that surround alcohol and drug use and why students need to make appropriate choices.
Sexual Assault Prevention
There will be two sets of leaders for this subject area: an all male group to present to the fraternities and an all female group to present to the sororities. Each group will approach presenting on this subject in a different way because men and woman approach this subject from very different perspectives.
Requesting a Presentation
SMARRT Presentation Requests may now be submitted online. Requests for Policies and Procedures presentations must be submitted at least one week in advance. Requests for all other presentations must be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
