Service and Philanthropy Guidelines
Every year, the Greek community at Case completes 365 Days of Service. In order to make this project a success, each chapter receives a goal at the beginning of the year that is based upon the number of active members in each chapter. Both the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Congress support and encourage chapters to hold philanthropic events and participate in community service projects as defined below.
Community Service
Community service is working for an organization in the community. The following guidelines apply to community service projects:
- It must be a non-profit organization that does not benefit the university or your chapter.
- It must have four members from a chapter present for any of the hours to count. Service may be exempt from this rule if the chapter adopts the program through the Greek Life Office, or if it is a Greek Life Sponsored Event (i.e., a Case SERVES event through the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning).
- Travel time does not count toward hours.
- Donation of blood constitutes one hour per person and four people do not have to participate.
- Events cannot include, or be associated with, alcohol, tobacco, or inappropriate sexual conduct.
Philanthropy
Philanthropic events include the following:
- organizing a fundraiser for charity
- participating in another chapter's fundraiser
- making a chapter donation to charity. (This can be a monetary donation or merchandise, such as school supplies.)
Questions about the nature of a particular event can be directed to Pyone Thi (PHC- VP of Service) or Alex Galante (IFC-VP of Service) at.
For every event to be counted toward a chapter's goal, they must have at least four members participating. This rule does not apply to Greek Sponsored Events, which are listed below.
