Current Opportunities

The following is a list of community service opportunities (on and off campus) that students may participate in. If events are italicized, they are considered to be Greek-sponsored events, which means you can participate in the event individually and it can count toward your chapter's 365 Service Program Goal. To view completed goals by chapter, please refer to the progress report, which is updated on a regular basis.

  • Open Doors After School Enrichment Program — Ongoing
  • Lutheran High School East in Cleveland Heights - They are looking for fraternity men and sorority women who are interested in tutoring grades 9-12 after school starting at 2:40-3:00pm. The tutoring times are flexible and they are still working on the exact time they need people. Students can contact Georgia Patton at gpatton@lutheranhighschooleast.com or by phone at 216-382-6100.
  • Help a child succeed!  Be a tutor in the Saturday Tutoring Program, which provides free tutoring for students in grades 1-12 from school districts throughout Greater Cleveland.  Volunteer when it fits your schedule; an every-week commitment is not required.  Sessions are held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Church of the Covenant (11205 Euclid Avenue) in University Circle.  Tutors choose the age group and subject(s) they would like to cover.  Students need help with basic reading and math, homework assignments, and standardized test preparation.  Materials, training, and free parking are provided.  Sessions are supervised by retired teachers.  Orientation is Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at Covenant.  Qualifications: Need desire and patience to help youngsters succeed, familiarity with subject to be taught, and ability to convey ideas clearly in fluent written and spoken English.  For details, visit www.covenantweb.org/tutoring  To volunteer, e-mail saturdaytutoring@gmail.com or call 216-421-0482 x281.  Your time + your knowledge = a child’s future.
  • Boys Hope, Girls Hope, A  Jesuit Program that partners with families of young men and women from challenged backgrounds to provide them a good education.  The scholars are in grades 7-12.  Scholars stay on our campus during the school year and receive full academic support and support with life skills.  Currently, we are looking for tutors but later this year we plan to add volunteers that will provide dieting, exercising, gardening, driving and mentoring skills for our scholars. Read the short description of our program and a description of our volunteer tutoring activity.  Please read it at your convenience and feel free to forward any questions to the me using the information provided below.
