Once a man or woman decides to accept a bid from a fraternity or sorority, the student (in most cases) becomes a pledge. Pledges learn through meetings, social events, and projects about the organization and its members. During pledge education, each new member is matched with a big brother or sister. Pledge programs usually last anywhere from 2 days to one semester, with initiation (the ceremony in which pledges become members) occurring only after the pledge has achieved the required G.P.A.
