Bruce Jackson

Chapter: Phi Kappa Psi

School: Case Western Reserve University, Class of 1991, BS - Management and Science

Current Position and Involvement with the University:

Bruce retired in 2005 and now is involved as a trustee of the Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi.  He is currently President of the CWRU chapter's House Corporation and a member of church finance and Building Committees.  In addition, he is working with friends on a start-up technology company called Segmint Inc.

Professional Career After College:

Bruce was first hired in the audit division of Arthur Andersen & Co. in Cleveland, after graduating in 1973, and was promoted to partner in 1984.  In 1988 he took the position of Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Cedar Fair, LP.  Bruce helped build the company from 2 amusement parks and $100 million in revenue to 12 parks and $500 million in revenue over his 17-year career.

How He Got Involved and Motivated:

Bruce was inspired to pursue a career in accounting and auditing by Professor Andrew Braden, who was hard to please but taught him a lot about auditing.  He was also inspired by Doug Jacobs, who was a manager at Arthur Andersen when he taught his first accounting course.  He says he was very fortunate to work with some excellent people in his early years at Arthur Andersen who gave him the opportunity to work hard, play hard and advance quickly.

Advice for Current Greeks:

  • The brothers with whom you share your college years will be some of the best friends you will have in your life.  Enjoy them as you grow together during college and even more in the years that follow.
  • Travel every chance you get; it is the best educational experience you can have.
  • Work hard and take work away from your supervisor; it helps them be more efficient and it makes you indispensible.

The Future:

Retirement is great! Lots of time for travel, family, golf, and reading.  And the best thing is no alarm clocks!
