Community Councils

The Residence Hall Association is all about community on the Case campus. Nowhere is that community more important than in the residence halls. Of course, great community cannot come from outside of the halls, it must come from within. That is the purpose of the councils -- to provide a better community for the residents in which to live and learn. This is achieved by:

  • Voicing the opinions of residents on important Student Life issues
  • Providing entertaining and/or educational programs for residents
  • Managing the community resources of the council
  • Representing the council in the General Body of the Residence Hall Association
Duties

It is the duty of each council to ensure that residents enjoy the best possible residential experience. This is a large task, but it can be broken down into several components:

  • Provide education and/or entertaining programs to enrich the lives of residents. These programs can vary from a Super Bowl party to an informational session on taxes. Community service events are great ways to help residents give back to the community. The best programming occurs when councils actively work with Residence Life staff in developing a programming plan for the year.
  • Resolve issues within the hall, such as noise problems, maintenance concerns, or vandalism. As the government of the halls, the council has the duty of responding to the problems of residents. Each council must be creative in pursuing issues because there is no issue too big for the council to handle. Additional help is given by the General Body and the RHA Executive Board, specifically the Executive Vice President of Campus Life.
  • Ensure the upkeep of community property and manage certain hall property, such as vacuums and other items. Often times, this specific duty falls under the responsibility of the house manager if the council appoints one.
  • Represent the Council's residents to the General Body of RHA. Through the General Body, the concerns and needs of all residents are expressed and addressed. The Vice President of each hall and President of the Council is responsible for acting as the hall's representative.
