Cervical Cap
A cup-shaped device to be used with spermicide cream or jelly that fits over the cervix and is held in place with suction. It can be left in place for up to 48 hours without application of additional spermicidal cream or jelly. It should be inserted 20 minutes prior to sexual intercourse, not to exceed more than 4 hours.
Effectiveness
Similar to that of the diaphragm.
Advantages
Similar to that of the diaphragm.
Disadvantages
- more difficult to fit than the diaphragm because of more limited size options
- more difficult to insert and remove
