About the University Health Service

The University Health Service (UHS) is supported through tuition dollars. All Case students who are registered for one or more credit hours are eligible to make use of the services offered within UHS. Full-time students who attend the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), or the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) are also eligible to use the services offered within UHS by paying a mandatory fee each semester (Fall and Spring) to their respective school.

Here at UHS, our goal is to help you stay healthy and productive so you can get the most education and enjoyment out of your years at Case, CIA, CIM or OCPM.

UHS is staffed by several professionals, all of whom share an interest in college health. These include physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and registered nurses. A number of the physicians are affiliated with University Hospitals of Cleveland and with the Case School of Medicine.

Most care is delivered by the staff of the General Medical Clinic, and students are seen on an APPOINTMENT BASIS ONLY, except in case of emergency. UHS offers specialty clinics such as Skin, Dermatology, Allergy and Women's Health. For consultation required beyond this, UHS usually refers to physicians and services available at University Hospitals of Cleveland or other outside providers. Appointments for the General or Specialty Clinics, except for Women's Health, may be made by calling 368-4539. Appointments for Women's Health may be made by calling 368-2453.

Also available are the services offered by the University Counseling Services (UCS), whose counselors see students for individual and group counseling sessions. All patient records are confidential and kept separate from the UHS medical records. Students needing long term therapy may be referred to a therapist or local clinic by the counseling staff. Referral must be made by a UCS staff member if any coverage by the Case Medical Plan is anticipated. There are two counseling offices on campus, one located at the University Health Service (368-2510) and one located in Sears Building, second floor (368-5872). Students are seen on an APPOINTMENT BASIS ONLY, except in cases of emergency where a walk-in clinic is available daily from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at the Sears Building location.

For medical or mental health emergencies after business hours, weekends or holidays, a nurse, physician and member of the counseling staff are always available by calling (216-368-2450). This service assists students and resident advisors in making decisions about illnesses, injuries and the use of emergency services.

UHS has a strong commitment to PREVENTION as a part of health care and believes that education is an essential tool. UHS will provide programs on various health-related topics for groups. UHS also offers immunization (at cost), for measles, rubella, mumps and hepatitis B. Tetanus boosters and tuberculin testing are provided as needed without charge.

All medical records are strictly confidential. Records are released only with the patient's written authorized permission, except in cases of life-threatening emergencies.
