Special Events
The following is a list of events that will occur during the 2009-2010 academic year. We will update this page with new information as soon as it becomes available.
International Education Week
International Education Week 2009 is from November 16 through November 20. We are celebrating with a variety of programs ranging from lectures at the law school, cultural heritage through poetry and art, and the annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Please check out the Student Affairs calendar for a full list of events.
International Education Week (IEW) was founded by President Bill Clinton, who recognized the need for an international education policy in the United States that would highlight the important contributions of international education and promote intercultural understanding. The inaugural IEW was celebrated November 13-17, 2000. Today, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education continue to promote programs that prepare Americans to learn from exchange experiences and be successful in a world that is becoming more interconnected. While their events are ongoing year-round efforts, they encourage everyone from individuals to institutions to participate in IEW and celebrate culture!
International Thanksgiving Dinner
The International Club plans to host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for international students, their families, and friends on Friday, November 20, 2009 in 310 Nord Hall. American students who are remaining on campus over the holiday weekend also are welcome to attend. This annual event is co-sponsored by the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and the Office of International Student Services. All international students are encouraged to attend.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to enjoy good food, stimulating conversation, and holiday fun! Tickets will be available for purchase in the ISS office (210 Sears Building) at a cost of $3 for undergraduate students, $5 for graduate students and all others, and $1 for children seven years old and younger.
International Students' Welcome/Welcome Back Parties
This is a long-standing tradition among international students at Case Western Reserve University. We always celebrate each semester's beginning with a Welcome/Welcome Back Party. We look forward to seeing everybody at the spring semester party, which will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Nord Atrium. The fun begins at 7 p.m.
Annual International Dinner
The 2010 International Dinner at Case will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Every year, approximately 120 volunteers prepare and serve delicious food and provide outstanding performances that are representative of their home countries. Case administrators and staff traditionally join in to help serve food to our guests. The Excelsior Ballroom in Thwing Student Center is filled to capacity and additional seating is provided in the 1914 Lounge. Approximately 350 guests enjoy an incredible variety of international dishes and entertainment. The dinner truly is a community effort, and everyone helps to make it a success.
People who would like to be guaranteed a seat at the dinner should plan on volunteering. Volunteers are able to purchase tickets in advance, before sales are open to the entire campus community. Forms will be available for those who would like to cook or perform at the International Dinner. Whether you cook, perform, or help set up tables and chairs, your assistance will be greatly appreciated!
