Please review the information below about the MMMF grants, the criteriathat must be met before receiving an application, and the list ofeligible countries.
The MMMF was established in 1981 to honor the late Margaret McNamaraand her commitment to the well being of women and children indeveloping countries. The purpose of the grant is to support theeducation of women from developing countries who are committed toimproving the lives of women and children in their home countries.Previous grant recipients were studying agriculture, architectureand urban planning, civil engineering, education, film directing,forestry, horticulture, journalism, legal policy, music therapy,nursing, nutrition, pediatrics, public administration, public health, socialsciences and social work.
The MMMF awards about six grants of about $11,000 each year; theyare not renewable. Application forms are available from September 30,until January 31 each year. Applications must be postmarked byFebruary 1. The MMMF will notify successful applicants by April 30.
Eligibility: A woman applying for an MMMF grant must meet all thefollowingcriteria:
- She must have a record of service to women and/or children in hercountry.
- She must reside in the U.S./Canada at the time she submits theapplication.
- She must be enrolled at an accredited U.S./Canada educationalinstitution by September of the application period and remain enrolled duringthe entire year of the grant.
- She must use the grant to continue to study for her degree.
- She must be a national of a developing country that is currentlyeligible to borrow from the World Bank and cannot be a U.S. Green Cardholder or Canadian resident (see current Country Eligibility List).
- She must intend to return to a developing country in about twoyears.
- She must demonstrate financial need.
- She must be at least 25 years old by December 31, of theapplication period.
- She must not be related to any World Bank Group staff member orhis or her spouse.
