Network Connection for Residential Colleges

You will need a Category 5e patch cable to connect your computer to the network. These cables are available at many retailers, including discount stores, electronics stores, office supply stores, and many online vendors.

1. Locate the network port on your computer; it looks like a phone jack, but wider.*
   
2. Connect one end of the network cable to the network port on your computer.
   
3. Connect the other end of the network cable to the "data" port on the bottom of your faceplate (B in the image below).
   
4. Open your Internet browser and browse to http://setup.case.edu to register your computer to use the Case network.
5. After you have registered your computer, it can take up to an hour to process your network registration.

* If you cannot find your computer's network port, consult your computer's user manual. Some older or cheaper computers do not have a built-in network connection, in which case you will have to buy a network card for your computer. Look for one labeled "10/100/1000" or "gigabit" to take full advantage of the high-speed network at Case. Like network cables, these are available from a variety of vendors.
