Pennies for Peace

This fall, Case Western Reserve University is delighted to be a part of Pennies for Peace, a fundraiser for the Central Asia Institute.  In this year's Common Reading, Three Cups of Tea, mountaineer Greg Mortenson becomes a humanitarian after his life is saved by the people of a small  village in Pakistan.  To repay them, Mortenson vows to build a school and hire teachers to help educate the village's children and give them an opportunity for a bright future.  With the help of generous donors, Greg Mortenson started the Central Asia Institute and has been able to build hundreds of schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan to benefit impoverished communities and promote the education of women.  His humanitarian work and great respect for cultural diversity has inspired Case Western Reserve University to support his cause.

CWRU's Pennies for Peace campaign began in July at the Orientation Summer Sessions and will end during Family Weekend on November 8th.  Many offices are already participating by displaying Pennies for Peace jars, which will be used to collect money for the campaign.  All of the change collected by September 25th will be sorted and wrapped by volunteers for Case for Community Day.  Any other offices wanting to participate can pick up a jar in Educational Services for Students (ESS) in Sears 470.

Any questions regarding the Pennies for Peace campaign, please contact Mayo Bulloch (mayo.bulloch@case.edu) or Kate Kraus (catherine.kraus@case.edu).

Thank you to all of the offices already participating!
