Executive Board Position Requirements

Position Purpose

EboardExecutive Board officers assist with the planning and implementation of New Student and Parent Orientation at Case. This includes the selection, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders. The officer and his/her team of leaders work together to welcome and reach out to new students and their families and oversee the facilitation of all orientation activities. Orientation planning begins in the spring semester in preparation for the Orientation Summer Sessions.

Summer Session Schedule
  • July Session I:  Sunday, July 11 – Tuesday, July 13, 2010 
  • July Session II:  Wednesday, July 14 – Friday, July 16, 2010 
  • August Session:  Monday, August 16, - Wednesday, August 18, 2010 
Case Ventures and Welcome Days
  • Case Ventures: Monday, August 16 – Wednesday, August 18, 2010
  • Welcome Days: Wednesday, August 18 – Sunday, August 22, 2010
Qualifications
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must complete approximately 10 hours of training during spring semester, 2010, to be arranged based on schedules
  • Must work full time and commit to a minimum of 35-40 hours a week starting on Thursday, May 13, 2010 through Welcome Days. (Vacation time includes five paid days and university holidays.)
  • Must work five hours the first week of classes to wrap up final projects
  • Must collaborate and work as a team, to help ensure a productive, effective, and successful orientation program
  • Must be able to fulfill all the time commitments listed below
  • Must portray a positive image that respectfully represents the university and orientation through all actions and communications
  • Must have at least one year experience as an Orientation Leader
  • Must be available to assist with Family Weekend 2010, November 5-7, 2010
Skills Required

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of approximately 50 new Orientation Leaders
  • Present and assist at the CWRU Winter Leadership Conference 
  • Attend the NODA (National Orientation Directors Association) conference Friday, March 5-7, 2010
  • Attend an Executive Board retreat in the spring
  • Attend and create the Orientation Leader Overnight Retreat, tentatively scheduled for May 7-8, 2010
  • Oversee assigned groups of Orientation Leaders for Summer Orientation sessions and Welcome Days
  • Assume responsibility for individual assignments and group assignments, i.e. web development, evening and social education programs, Parent Orientation, Common Reading, commuter and transfer concerns, housing assignments, advising, etc.
  • Assist with all office activities/communications including phone calls, e-mails, mailings, publications, and records
  • Live in the residence halls during July Summer Orientation sessions
  • Ensure that all orientation leaders meet with their assigned Summer Orientation group and participate in all Summer Orientation activities
  • Coordinate check-in and move-in day for Summer Sessions and Welcome Days in conjunction with Housing, Residence Life, and Plant Services
  • Provide a welcoming and positive presence to all new students, families, and visitors
  • Work with Case administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure that programs are successful
  • Attend appropriate meetings beginning in spring semester and throughout the summer, etc.
  • Follow and promote the Orientation Code of Conduct
Compensation

All Orientation Executive Board officers will receive a stipend of $125 for the spring semester and $3,550 in four installments for the summer (May-August). The board will receive meals during the Summer Orientation Sessions and Welcome Days. Summer residence hall housing in South Residential Village is also offered at no charge.

Applications and Interviews

Applications are open through November 1, 2009. Interviews will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009. Applicants will sign up for a time slot (1.5 hrs).
