Adjusting to Campus Life
Living away from home can be an exciting time for first-year students. Many arrive as incoming freshmen or transfer from another college. Others travel to Cleveland as international students, eager to learn a new perspective and explore a new way of life.
Adjusting to campus life can be fun, rewarding and challenging. Here at Case, our goal is to make students comfortable with their new surroundings. We provide every opportunity to help make the transition from home a smooth one, and provide ample ways to explore, discover and learn.
Getting Settled
Once Orientation ends, some students may feel a little anxious or miss their familiar surroundings. Maybe the prospect of living hundreds of miles from home makes them restless or uneasy, or their class schedule seems busy and more demanding than usual. First-year fears are common, but this is all a natural part of adjusting until students get used to a routine and start finding their way around campus. As they acclimate themselves to residence hall life, many students will learn to rely on their roommates or make new friends outside the classroom.
College is a great time to reach out and form new friendships. Case provides numerous opportunities to get involved with student organizations, campus programs, Greek Life events, community service projects, athletic programs and more. There are dozens of events that are ongoing across campus.
Although there are plenty of opportunities for socialization, down time is also encouraged. If students need time to relax or exercise, Case provides meditation classes, mind and body programs, and spiritual learning opportunities. In addition, ongoing help is available from our residence hall staff and counseling personnel. Students can always schedule time to speak with counselors one-on-one or participate in peer groups where they can share their concerns with other students.
