The Annual Commencement Convocation at Case Western Reserve University is a time of celebration in the lives of students, faculty, guests and the entire University community as it reflects the accomplishments of past years and sets a course for new ventures.

To honor this milestone, the university has planned several activities for the nearly 2000 graduates who will participate in the ceremonies on Sunday, May 18, 2008. By the end of Commencement Day, the university will have completed nine separate ceremonies. For students receiving undergraduate degrees, the day includes two ceremonies and a reception.

Commencement Convocation Ceremony Veale Convocation Center For parents and families, the day begins in the Veale Center with the 9:30 am Commencement Convocation ceremony. Traditionally, our ceremony includes an academic procession of students and faculty from all the schools and colleges. This ceremony is attended by many faculty, guests, and VIPs, and is the only time that all graduates are together for one university-wide ceremony. During this ceremony, President Snyder will confer degrees to all the graduates. In addition, we award honorary degrees, several faculty honors, and hear from our featured commencement speaker. Undergraduates must attend Convocation to get their diplomas, as their diploma ceremony immediately follows the university-wide Convocation ceremony.

Since seating in the Veale Center is limited, each undergraduate student who registers to attend Convocation will be offered three (3) guest tickets. Additional seating will be available in the adjoining Horsburgh Gymnasium/Emerson Physical Education Center, where large-screen video projection will provide excellent views of the Convocation proceedings. Guests wishing to select seats providing the best visibility are advised to arrive early. All facilities will be open at 8:00 a.m.

Undergraduate Diploma Ceremony Veale Convocation Center The Undergraduate Diploma ceremony follows the Commencement Convocation, and will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are NOT required for this event. It is during this ceremony that undergraduate students will cross the stage to receive their diplomas as their names are called. The ceremony should conclude between 12:15 and 12:30. Graduates will process from the Veale Center to join their families at a reception.
