The Emerging Leaders Program Mission
The goal of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is to give first-year Case Western Reserve University students the opportunity
to develop a foundation of leadership skills by providing knowledge and experiences
essential for lifelong leadership engagement.
While participating in the 2009-2010 Emerging Leaders Program, first-year students will learn:
Leadership Awareness
- Identify or reevaluate their leadership style and personal leadership strengths/areas for improvement
- Clarify their values and examine the alignment of their values with their leadership style and involvement
- Understand the value in mentoring relationships
- Recognize and respect the various approaches to leadership
- Understand institutional and community resources for leadership
Leadership Skills
- Developing relationships within the Case community, including first-year and upperclass students, staff, faculty, and administrators
- Demonstrating critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills
- Demonstrating an understanding of The Leadership Challenge
- Further developing their verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Developing an understanding of the group dynamics of conflict, teamwork, and motivation.
- Practicing intentional goal setting and personal reflection
- Strengthening their personal strategy for time management
Leadership Experiences
- Actively participate in service projects within the Cleveland community and reflect on their experiences
- Become active members in their campus organization(s)
- Develop relationships with peers, facilitators, and mentors
- Interact with active leaders in the Cleveland community as a means of gaining various perspectives of leadership
