History of The Emerging Leaders Program at Case

The Emerging Leaders Program was initiated in 2005. Since its inception the program has graduated approximately 199 first-year students. Most of these students continue to be actively engaged in other leadership development programs or serve as leaders in more than 175 student organizations at Case.

Mindful of the fact that first-year students need to be indoctrinated with a strong set of leadership skills, the Office of Student Activities & Leadership gathered multiple experts in student leadership from within the Case community and explored hundreds of other Emerging Leaders programs across the country, to create a program specifically with the Case student in mind! When searching for a leadership theory best suited for the Case student, The Leadership Challenge stood out distinctly. Barry Posner, Ph.D., and James Kouzes, Ph.D., have extensively researched college student leaders to determine the five best leadership practices within this population.

Students graduate from the ELP with a stronger foundation of leadership competencies, a greater sense of self, a firmer idea of the countless leadership opportunities offered at Case, and a commitment to engage and further develop as leaders.
