Core Elements

To gain the full benefit of the Emerging Leaders Program, participation in all events, discussions, and projects is essential.

Opening Ceremony

On Monday, October 6, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m., all ELPers will attend the Opening Ceremony in the Thwing Center Ballroom. During the ceremony, ELPers will be introduced to the Emerging Leaders Program, meet their leadership advisors and peer mentors, and socialize with other ELP participants. After the ceremony, ELPers and their peer mentors will attend a social event at The Spot.

Organizational Membership

Each ELPer is expected to become an active member of a campus organization. This organization should meet on a regular basis (at least every other week) and provide students with the opportunity to become involved in a project or event. ELPers may participate in Media Board, RHA, UPB, USG, hall council, or a USG-recognized club. Men also have the opportunity to join a fraternity during the fall semester. Membership should be established by late October.

Peer Mentoring Program

Each ELPer will be paired with an upper-class student leader who will assist them through their ELP experience. Mentors are there for support and to further connect students to the campus community by helping them network with Case students, staff, and faculty. Social opportunities will be provided throughout the program to help students and their mentor get to know each other.

Leadership Advising

Each ELPer will be paired with a staff leadership advisor who will help participants map out their Case leadership journey and make sure they are meeting all the requirements of the ELP. This is an opportunity for ELPers to develop a one-on-one relationship with a member of Case's staff and learn more about how they can get involved on campus. ELPers are required to meet with their leadership advisor twice during the fall semester. The first meeting must be completed by late October.

Campus-Wide Leadership Programs

During the fall semester, ELPers will be required to attend three leadership-related programs offered on campus. ELPers will be provided a calendar of approved events, and if they are interested in a program not on the list, they may seek approval from their leadership advisor. Departments offering leadership programs include, but are not limited to, Student Activities & Leadership, Residence Life, Greek Life, the Career Center, and the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women. ELPers select programs based on interest and scheduling, so it is completely up to you!

Retreat

This overnight, off-campus experience will be the first time you meet your spring semester ELP Team. You will participate in a service project and team-building activities. During the retreat, ELPers will discuss The Leadership Challenge, their Student Leadership Practice Inventory (SLPI) results, and network with others. This is a great way to kick off the spring semester and meet other first-year ELP students. The retreat will take place the week before classes start — Friday, January 16- Saturday, January 17, 2009.

ELP Team Meetings

Each ELPer will be placed into a small group or ELP Team. The ELP teams will meet weekly to explore specific concepts and work on a final team project. These fellow ELPers will be your main support system throughout the spring semester of the program. Meeting times will be Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m in the spring semester.

Graduation

On Wednesday, March 18, 2009, all ELPers who have successfully completed the program requirements will partake in the graduation ceremony where they will be recognized for their achievements.
