5 Simple Steps to Planning an Awesome Event!

This session provides an overview of the basics of event planning on the Case Western Reserve campus—from the brainstorming process to execution and everything in between.

Groups and Teams 101
  • Karl Rishe, Coordinator of First Year Residence Education

Focus: Leaders of all levels; Undergraduates & Graduates

This session will go over the fundamental rules of team and group development. The most applicable theories for membership retention will also be used, as well as a look at the five dysfunctions of a team. It will be interactive and informative, but mostly applicable to your student organization and your future professional organizations.

Advisors can be a great wealth of knowledge. We realize that it can be difficult to work with advisors—some have full-time jobs or are going to graduate school. We believe that working with advisors is key to organizational success. We’ll discuss how you can collaborate ideas, how to work with your advisor, and how you can reach out to them.

Leadership in the Global Context

According to many practitioners and scholars global leadership is an emerging field that seeks to understand and explain the impact of globalization processes on leadership. Participants will develop an understanding of the qualities and attribute of global leaders and identify the key competencies and concrete experiences that influence global leadership development.

What Not to Wear: The Art of Communicating Professionally

As student leaders, we are continually faced with the challenge of learning how to communicate professionally with administration, professors, advisors, other student leaders, and even peers in the classroom and residence halls. As representatives of various organizations, Case Western Reserve University, and our own future careers, mastering the art of professional communication is imperative. The session will teach you to dress [and speak] professionally for your audience. The question is, are you ready to evaluate your wardrobe?

Why Are the Patients Running the Asylum?

Why do we allow our problem members to put our whole chapter at risk on a regular basis?  Why don't we hold them accountable when they break the rules?  Learn about some strategies for confronting members face to face and some structural you can make so that personal accountability becomes standard practice in your chapters.

The Habit of Ethics

This session will involve a little history lesion on the foundation of ethics and with the creation of your own code of ethics. There will be a little time dedicated to looking at the creation of a code of ethics for groups at the end.
