MLK Day Student Symposium

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Date: Monday, January 16, 2012
Time: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Thwing Center Ballroom

The MLK Day Student Symposium is free for undergraduate and graduate/professional students and provides an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King's message of justice and compassion and to celebrate his legacy. There will be a complimentary lunch and a gift t-shirt.

In 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr,. said “There is nothing new about poverty. What is new is that we now have the techniques and the resources to get rid of poverty. The real question is whether we have the will.” What do his words say to us today?

This year’s program will be an afternoon-long workshop about poverty. A large part of the program will be a Poverty Simulation that will raise awareness of the issues. At the conclusion of the simulation, all participants will come together to discuss their experiences and to explore ways to address the issue of poverty in our community.
