University Purchases

Purchases for official university use must be in compliance with the cellular phone policy. Devices must be approved by the IT group for compatibility.

Personal Devices

Although the IT Operations Group is unable to provide official support for personally-owned telephone or PDA devices, we will make our best-effort to provide you information on using devices that are compatible with our systems. We are unable provide or install desktop synchronization software for devices.

In order to access divisional e-mail services, the device must support the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol and security policies. ActiveSync allows you to synchronize your your e-mail, calendar, tasks, and contacts anywhere you can get a network connection. Most phone manufacturers have devices that support this protocol. Contact your cellular telephone provider to see what options they provide.

We support Exchange ActiveSync because it is compatible with our mail server and is available on a wide variety of devices from a variety of manufacturers. Most mobile operating systems now have ActiveSync support built-in or available through a third-party add-on. It also allows us to implement special security measures that are required by campus data security policies if your device is lost or stolen.
