The following software products are not approved for installation for the reason specified.
- Blackberry Desktop (Blackberry not supported)
- Firefox, Chrome, Safari web browsers (duplicate functionality, use IE)
- Google Desktop Search (FERPA & HIPPA Compliance)
- HotBar (spyware)
- Instant Messager such as AOL, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo! (use Spark)
- iTunes (use IE to subscribe to podcasts)
- Palm Desktop (fails XP logo guidelines)
- Real Player (adware)
- Search toolbars (spyware)
- WebShots Desktop (no business use)
- WinZip (this functionality is included in Windows XP)
Instant Messaging Software
We realize the popularity of the many instant messenger systems, especially
for communication with students. Unfortunately, no standard for
interoperability has been established, and much of the client software creates
undue management burden with serious security holes and very frequent updates.
We now provide support for Spark, which allows you to communicate with other
Case users and also allows you connect to one or more of the most popular instant messenger networks (AOL, ICQ, MSN,
Yahoo!) at the same time.
Although some advanced features may not be available, this software will provide
basic messenger and file transfer functionality. This software will be centrally updated
periodically by the IT Operations Group as new releases are made available.
