The Online Editor Tool: An Overview

If you feel comfortable using the tools in Microsoft Word, you will find it easy to update your pages on the Student Affairs Web site using the Online Editor Tool (OET). Our OET interface is similar to Microsoft Word, so you will recognize many of the text formatting options, buttons and drop-down menus.

You'll need to decide who will be in charge of updating your site. Those responsible for maintaining it should be committed to making regular changes and keeping your content fresh and up-to-date. Once you determine that, you'll need to contact the IT Operations Group so they can provide user access. Once IT sets up your permissions, you can start using the online tool and updating your web pages.

Once permissions are established, you will need to log in to the OET so you can view all tool options:

Step 1: Using Internet Explorer, navigate to the Web page you want to change. Click on [Site Login], located at the top left. You will be prompted to log in to the editor using your Case ID and network password. (This is the same password you use when logging into the PeopleSoft System.)

Step 2: Once you login, your page will re-appear with some additional features (See Fig. 1). Notice a welcome message at the top left. At the bottom left, you will see a new menu called "Editing Tools" with the following links listed below it:

  • Edit: MainContent
  • Create: New Page
  • Create: Directory
  • Upload: Document
  • Upload: Picture
  • List: This Directory

Let's start first with Edit: Main Content.
