Resizing Photos Using Microsoft Picture Manager

Here are the steps you can use for resizing and compressing your photos, using Microsoft Picture Manager:

  1. Click on Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Picture Manager
  2. Go to File, Open and then find the image on your hard drive.
  3. On the right-hand side of your page, click on "Locate Pictures." Next to "Look in:" select the drive where your file is stored. Once you select the drive, you should see a series of folders or thumbnails located on the left-hand side of your window.
  4. Navigate to the photo you want to work with. Double-click on it.
  5. At the top of your window, choose "Edit Pictures." At the far-right hand side of your screen, you will now see an option to "Resize." Click on that link. Notice that your "Resize Settings" default to the "Original Size" option.
  6. Click on the radio button just before "Percentage of Original Width x Height." Type in 40 (%) or choose a smaller or larger number from the drop-down. Notice how it will give you a "New Size" width and height. Experiment with the number to get as close as you can to say, 200 wide x (height provided automatically). Click OK when you are pleased with your new size. The percentage tool will resize the width and height on its own, so don’t type in your own width and height numbers or your picture will looked stretched and skewed.
  7. Go back to "Edit Pictures" at the top of your screen. Look for "Compress Pictures" on the right-hand side of the page. Click on that link. Under "Compress for:" choose "Web Pages." Click OK.
  8. Go to File, Save As, and rename the photo as needed. Your photo should be resized with the quality and size you need.
