Site Navigation Guidelines
The studentaffairs.case.edu website hosts content for the following:
- Departments of the division
- Major programs and events sponsored by the division, its departments, or multiple departments
- Student and staff groups charged divisionally by the vice president of student affairs
- Student groups that are wholly sponsored by one or more student affairs departments
- Major awards or ceremonies
- Reference information on university policies, procedures, and resources
The guidelines outlined here:
- Define the structure of the studentaffairs.case.edu site
- Establish uniform use of navigation elements across all site content
- Support the brands of the university and the Division of Student Affairs
A link to "Division of Student Affairs" will appear in the header of every
page on the site above any departmental information. This link will bring users
back to the divisional home page. Links to various important sections of the
site also appear in the footer of each page, below any content and information
about the department.
Naming Conventions
The names of directories and pages should be chosen to accurately reflect the
name of the department, section, group, event, program, or subject matter of the
directory or page. Preferably this would be a single word that reflects the
purpose of the content. Extraneous or overly generic terms in names (or anywhere
else in navigation) should be avoided.
The use of acronyms or abbreviations should be avoided, unless the resulting
name would be prohibitively long. Although they can make the addresses longer, words are more effective for advertising because they are easier for visitors to recognize and remember. Although you may be familiar with departmental
acronyms, your visitors probably are not.
