Shortcut Menus

Occasionally there is a need to highlight special programs or information at a high navigation level than would normally be permitted by the navigation guidelines. Special programs or information can be highlighted so that visitors can access them with one click instead of searching for them in the menus.

The default page in a department, section, program, event, or group may have an optional shortcut menu that appears below the main menu in the left-hand navigation area. The shortcut menu appears in place of a directory menu, so shortcut menus cannot be used in directories. A shortcut menu must have between three and eight menu items.

The title of a shortcut menu is defined by the context in which it is to be used:

  • Featured Programs
  • Quick Links
  • Shortcuts

A shortcut menu does not provide access to additional options in a site. It is restricted to going "down" to sections, directories, or pages that would normally be accessed with more than one click. A shortcut menu cannot link to other sections, departments, programs, groups or sites.
