Dell is one of Case's preferred vendors. Through this relationship, the
university receives tremendous discounts for official purchases. Dell extends
discounts to students, faculty, and staff for personal purchases as well. Buying
a computer from Dell helps support the value of our preferred vendor
relationship.
The Dell Home and Home/Office website offers the same products that are available at Dell kiosks that
you may have seen in many local malls. Dell kiosks are a great way to see the
products up close.
The Dell website offers the Dimension and XPS desktop computers and Inspiron and
XPS laptop computers. The Dimension and Inspiron lines are usually appropriate
for most staff, and the XPS models are geared toward power users.
Although you don't get any special discounts through this site, there are
many promotions that may make up for the lack of a discount. Free shipping
alone can be worth up to $100 and can often be combined with other offers such
as monitor upgrades. If you take advantage of these offers, you can get a great
deal.
In order to access this site, you will need to log in with your Case network
ID and password. This verifies that you are an eligible staff member and directs
you to the Dell site.
There are two different discounts available on this site. The best discount
is available if you select one of the systems "recommended by your university."
These machines are specially priced for maximum discounts and are the exact
same machines that are advertised to students. You can usually choose between
two configurations of Optiplex desktop computers and three different Latitude
laptop computers. These are the same models that are found throughout the
division. If you choose one of these machines, you can be confident you are
getting a great deal. Because of the special pricing, though, your configuration
options are more limited.
You can also receive up to 12 percent off of anything on the Dell site. Using this
option, you'll be able to purchase the same Dimension, Inspiron, and XPS models
that are available at the home store. The amount of your discount is tied to the
length of your warranty. A three-year warranty (recommended) is required to
obtain the 12 percent discount.
Finally, the Dell outlet has a selection of refurbished items at exceptional
prices. All sales through the outlet have the usual factory warranty and items
change daily.
