Remote Desktop is a technology that allows you to sit at a computer at one location and connect to a remote computer in a different location. This means that you can connect to your work computer from your home computer and have access to all of your programs, files, and network resources as though you were using your computer at work. Unlike other methods of accessing your data from home, you are actually logging into and using the remote computer, just as if you were sitting there.
When you use the remote desktop client software, everything that would be displayed on your work computer's screen shows up in a window on your computer. Even the sounds made by your work computer are played on your home computer! You can also use familiar "cut and paste" operations to transfer data between the two computers.
Because all of the work actually occurs on the remote computer, you do not need a powerful computer at home to use remote desktop. You do need to meet the following prerequisites:
If you do not meet these requirements, you will not be able to use remote desktop.
