Using the Windows XP VPN Client

The Windows XP client is the easiest way to make a VPN connection to the campus network, since the required software is already built in to the operating system.  The following instructions were taken from a previous version of the VPN information provided by the Information Services Help Desk.  In order to simplify their support, they may require you to use the Cisco VPN client in order to receive support.

This initial setup only needs to be done once per computer.

Creating a New VPN Connection
  • Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections
  • Select "Create a New Connection" to start the "New Connection Wizard"
  • When the "New Connection Wizard" starts, click "Next"
  • Select "Connect to the network at my workplace" and press "Next"
  • Select "Virtual Private Network connection" and click "Next"
  • Enter Case VPN in the "Company Name" text box and press "Next"
  • Click the "Do not dial the initial connection" radio button and press "Next"
  • Enter vpn3000.case.edu in the "Host name or IP address" textbox and press "Next"

    • Click "Properties" to bring up the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window
